Visit to Ninewells Community Garden

I have just completed a short placement with Ninewells Community Garden & the Occupational Therapy Department of Ninewells Hospital. The community garden sits within the grounds of the hospital and was supported in its set up by Trellis Scotland, the national social and therapeutic horticulture charity who I also work for as a Fieldworker. The ethos of the garden is to be a safe, welcoming and therapeutic space for patients, staff, families and members of the public to relax and enjoy nature, and do some gardening. Its absolutely beautiful and is such a haven from the clinical atmosphere of the hospital. I really enjoyed spending time there, especially in their physic garden – a herb garden organised according to the hospital ward that the plants are most suited to treating. What a great idea! Hopefully in coming years all hospitals will have gardens like Ninewells.
