Autumn harvesting

We had a lovely evening open to volunteers wanting to give us a hand maintaining our herb patch – the Blackford Glen Medicine Garden last week. The garden was surrounded by a line of Elder trees dripping with fat ripe berries and rosehips and brambles scrambled along the garden edge. I was not expecting however to find our St John’s Wort still blooming away, and even full of unopened flower buds. At this time of year the combination of the deep red seed pods with the bright yellow flowers is stunning. Another jar filled to make an infused oil great as a wound healer and for nerve pain. I am looking forward to our next volunteer session to see what will be around.
