Fungi workshop- Identification, Uses & Folklore

7 October, 2018 at 10:00 am til 3:00 pm

£30.00 – £70.00
Delve into the fascinating world of fungi in this one day course with Mycologist Ali Murfitt. With a focus on medicinal and edible fungi, this course will help equip you with the knowledge to accurately identify many fungi, know which ones you should leave in the woods and how you can incorporate fungi in your diet for food and good health. Sustainable harvesting, fungi ecology, identification techniques and mushroom folklore will all be explored through the day.
We will spend the morning inside the classroom, and weather permitting will head out into Blackford Glen in the afternoon to see what we can identify together. Please bring a packed lunch for the day and weather proof clothing and footwear.
Ali has recently become a mum and will be bringing along 5 month old baby Wren to the session. Her partner Pete will also be there with Wren, but Ali may have to take Wren at points in the session.

We aim to make our events participatory, enjoyable and inclusive, and will do our best to cater to individual needs & learning styles – please get in touch if you have any concerns. Unfortunately this venue is not wheelchair accessible.

Cost is offered on a sliding scale of £30-£70 for the day. To see why we use a sliding scale please see here. If you choose the ‘solidarity rate’ £10 of your ticket price will go to help support our community herbal medicine clinic in Wester Hailes.

As a co-op we value making our workshops as accessible as possible, but we have to balance this with earning a living income, so please pay the full price if you can afford it. We really appreciate your continuing support which enables us to carry out our community work.
